About Made In Muncie

Made In Muncie Pottery, formerly The Artist Within, has been serving the community of Muncie and surrounding areas for nearly 20 years! Though we are primarily a Paint-Your-Own Pottery studio, we also offer gallery space for local artists and hold community workshops to further the creative offerings of our business. We value our patrons’ love for creating and their continued support- without it we would not exist!

Made In Muncie is dedicated to the artistic spirit of Muncie. Our staff is passionate about creating a fun, creative environment for patrons to truly have an amazing experience.

About Our Staff

MEET TOREN

SHOP OWNER, POTTERY INSTRUCTOR
Toren Scott is a clay artist from Muncie, Indiana. He has been the owner of Made in Muncie Pottery since 2012. His work includes small batch production pottery, sculptures, and functional forms.
The United States Navy, becoming a father and a small business owner are influencing Toren’s current body of work. Conceptually he is looking at the way imperfection and beauty relate to each other creating tension, along with issues of the current political environment within the United States and the globe.
Currently, Toren is striving to have his business and art practices be a more influential participant within the local and regional art community.  Made in Muncie Pottery aims to expand its support of local artists as an art venue, along with furthering its community outreach with providing youth programming and private lessons. As Toren creates his thrown items for Made in Muncie he allows the community to interact with hand thrown pieces and create each piece collaboratively. View his work at the button below.

MEET RACHEL

SHOP MANAGER, EVENTS COORDINATOR
Rachel has been drawing since she was able to hold a crayon without eating it.  Eventually she figured out what it was for and graduated with an arts degree from Ball State in 2015.  She’s been at the studio since 2016 and manages events and the day to day goings on.  In her free time she enjoys walking her dog, sketching, and baking with questionable success. MEET EUGENE

POTTERY THROWING INSTRUCTOR
After he retired in 2009, Eugene Boyd planned to realize his lifelong dream of opening a wood shop. That was until he took a ceramics class at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. Eugene fell in love with clay and couldn’t get enough time in class. He discovered a passion for clay he never knew and forgot all about the wood shop! In 2016, the house next door to Eugene became available allowing him to open his very own studio, Boyd’s Pottery. Eugene also teaches multi-week pottery classes at Cornerstone Center for the Arts if you would like to continue working with clay! View his work at the button below.

MEET MICHELE

Michele is perhaps the “mom” of the MIM family.  She wears many hats; preschool teacher by day, MIM pottery waitress on nights/weekends and most importantly a wife, and mom to her 3 kids.  Michele is a people person that enjoys helping customers.  She admittedly has the least artistic background of the bunch but she is crafty and good at sharing MIM shortcuts and techniques to help you feel like an artist!

MEET ANNA

Anna learned everything she knows from her Mom- meaning her childhood craft drawer has grown into an entire room full of projects that may or may not be finished… one day. Having worked in food service around Muncie the past several years, she was very excited to settle down at MIM to feed her creative soul in the Fall of ‘22. When she isn’t helping others have lovely days, you’ll typically find her at home playing video games with big fantastical worlds. Her favorite thing in the world is spending time with her partner and 3 cats, while finding something absurd to laugh about.

MEET MARY

Mary likes all kinds of art! She graduated from BSU from the School of Art, concentrating in Painting.
No, she won’t paint on your piece- but she will give you her best advice on tools and techniques to use though! Mary loves to see the creativity that MIM cultivates for its customers. She truly believes everyone is an artist, even if they don’t believe it!

Mary manages the gallery space at Made In Muncie. She is also the curator of the Art4Quarters art vending machine located at Made in Muncie. View her work at the button below.
